NWSC and systems maintenance update: Casper remains down this morning

July 15, 2020

Due to damage to a key network component on Tuesday at the NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Center (NWSC), the Casper cluster, GLADE and Campaign Storage file systems, data-access nodes, JupyterHub, and remote access services FastX and VNC were not returned to service last night as scheduled. Users will be notified when the systems are returned to service, which is expected to be later this morning.

Cheyenne’s maintenance schedule was not affected and is still expected to return to service on Saturday. Maintenance on the HPSS tape archive was completed but access to the system is not possible while Casper and the data-access nodes remain down. Most work scheduled for Tuesday at NWSC was completed successfully. CISL's Infrastructure Support Group Cheyenne and external contractors continued repair efforts on the facility's power infrastructure and that work remains on schedule. HPE and Nortek contractors completed scheduled repairs to several Cheyenne cooling system components and began the process of flushing those components.

CISL apologizes for the unexpected delay and thanks everyone for their patience and understanding while we work to ensure that all systems are fully ready to be returned to service.
