Cheyenne cluster returned to service after Sunday power outage

March 16, 2020

The Cheyenne cluster was fully restored to service last night shortly before 7:30 p.m. MDT after a widespread power outage in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Black Hills Energy reported that icy conditions north of Cheyenne caused a failure of the power feed to the entire city at approximately 4:15 p.m. Automated processes at the NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Center immediately switched to generator power and UPS systems kept the Casper cluster, GLADE, Campaign Storage, and HPSS available. All batch jobs that were running on Cheyenne when power was interrupted were lost.

CISL thanks everyone for their patience, understanding and cooperation throughout the outage.
